  1. Darjeeling is a hill station situated in the Shiwalik Hills or Lower Himalayan range. This scenic town was acquired by the British from the king of Sikkim as a gift around a hundred and fifty years ago. Later it was developed as a rest and recreational center for their troops.

    Today the town retains many of the legacies of the British Government. Darjeeling was given to the East India Company by the King of Sikkim to protect them from the king of Nepal. Darjeeling town is centered round the Mall and is the hill station of West Bengal with exotic view of the Himalayan peaks specially Mount Everest, Mount Makalu, Mount Lhotse and Mount Kanchendzonga. Popularly known as the queen of hill stations and is situated at a distance of approximately 90 kilometers from Siliguri. Situated at a height of nearly 2134 meters / 7000 feet and is a destination for the visitors who want to avoid the sweltering heat of the summer. It is one well known destination due to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park and for the clear view of the Himalayan range. There are other attractions also. For rail enthusiasts Darjeeling is better known for its famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. This famous narrow gauge steam railway plies its way from Siliguri in the plains below up to Ghoom and Darjeeling in the hills. Several movies have been shot in this world heritage train and it can now be chartered for film, advertisement and other commercial shooting. It conjures visions of serenity and of vibrant green hills steeped in splendor. It is a land of breathtaking beauty crowned by the majestic Himalayas and 100 odd Tea estates with those majestic bungalow and stretches of rolling fields.
